November 16th, 2009
On Friday November 6th in the Novotel, Valencia, Pole Position Travel http://www.polepositiontravel.com/ hosted a charity auction in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland.Pole Position Travel have been supporting DSI through sponsorship of the Rev-up4DSI http://revup4dsi.ie/ annual around Ireland motorcycle challenge for the past four years as well as hosting the auction at the closing round of the Moto GP in Valencia. Every year Gordon Howell (PPT MD) and his team fly two lucky Rev-up4DSI participants to Valencia where its red carpet treatment all the way with VIP Village passes, paddock and garage tours, great accommodation and of course the aforementioned opening party/ charity auction. This year’s special guest was World Supersport runner up Eugene Laverty who brought some special items with him to lend weight to the auction and who was a massive hit with all off PPT’s guests. Eugene has been acting as an ambassador for DSI for the past number of years where his name alone is a massive coup for the charity. With lots including a DSI polo shirt signed by the entire Moto GP paddock, a Suzuki shirt signed by Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi, signed images of Valentino Rossi and a very limited edition photo book of the late great Martin Finnegan (all other copies were given to Martin’s family) shot by well known Irish photographer, Derek Clegg, the evening raised the massive total of €8,500 for DSI!Gordon. “We are delighted the evening went so well and raised so much money for such a worthy cause. We look forward to strengthening our partnership in the coming years and hopefully we will have an even bigger crowd present in Valencia in 2010!”All funds raised on the evening and indeed through the Rev-up4DSI campaign go towards the further development of Down Syndrome Ireland’s National Resource Team (NRT) and its ongoing work for and on behalf of the members and their families. The NRT is made up of experts in the fields of Early Intervention, Counselling, Education, Health and Independence.Down Syndrome Ireland would like to convey their thanks to Gordon and all the team at Pole Position Travel, Eugene Laverty, all bidders at the auction, and the biking community at large for their ongoing supportFor further info log onto www.downsyndrome.ie
