As per previous years, Rev-up4DSI took a stall at the Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show in the RDS, Dublin. The show itself ran over the weekend of 4th-6th March and from early on Friday it was patently obvious that the show was going to be a success!

With a massive amount of pre-show publicity on TV, Radio and mainstream printed press, not to mention the biking press, the crowds queued outside the RDS long before the 3pm opening time on Friday and this set the precedent for the weekend!

The DSI stall was as ever manned by our Rev-up’ volunteers, who never cease to amaze us with the levels of their enthusiasm and generosity, huge thanks to them one and all. Our raffle, kindly sponsored by AKB Moto Distributors (Schuberth Helmets) and Nevis Marketing (Shark Helmets) was due to take place on Sunday evening but due to the demand for tickets we had Yamaha World Superbike rider & DSI Ambassador, Eugene Laverty draw the winning tickets on Saturday. The winner of the Schuberth SR1 helmet was a Ger Brennan and the Shark Vision-R was won by a Philip Kelly, congrats to both.

With the raffle finished we were in somewhat of a conundum as to what to do on Sunday, but within minutes Gilbert from Carole Nash Insurance stepped into the breech, donating a €250 insurance voucher to raffle. AKB were not to be outdone and duly produced a Ferrari open face helmet to add to the list and then in a show of amazing generosity, Philip Kelly phoned to re-donate the Shark Helmet!

So on Sunday morning, with the crowds thronging the halls of the RDS once more, the Rev-up’ crew set up their stall with raffle tickets, hoodies, t-shirts, hats, mugs and basically anything else you could put a logo on and did their utmost to put Del & Rodney to shame! The expression ’selling sand to the Arabs’ just wouldn’t do these guys & gals justice! Eugene Laverty once again gave very generously of his limited time to stand on our stall and quite frankly DSI could not wish for a better Ambassador for the cause, his name alone drew the crowds in their droves to the awaiting ‘Sales Team’! Eugene also accepted a cheque on behalf of DSI for almost €4,000 from Mark Ennis and Tom Dolan, the proceeds of the second annual ‘Dyno Day4DSI’ fundraising event which was held in O’Neill’s Motorcycle’s, Tralee. Within hours all that was left was a lonely pair of t-shirts so TT winner Michael ‘Maverick’ Dunlop was called upon to draw the winning tickets. Lora O’Brien won the Shark Vision-R, Wesley Regan won the Carole Nash voucher and Paul Flynn won the Ferrari Helmet.

With nothing left but the aforementioned t-shirts and a pair of tables that we half expected the team to sell such was their sales pitch, all that was left  to do was to reflect on a fantasticly successful weekend for DSI in terms of awareness and of course funds raised with over €4,000 added to the coffers. Huge thanks to the Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show for their support of Rev-up4DSI 2011, AKB, Nevis & Carole Nash for the prizes, Eugene & Pippa for their ongoing support of our cause, Michael Dunlop and most of all to our volunteers and the show going public who gave so generously.

See you at the ‘Show’ in 2013!
